Thank you to all the people that came out last night (7/17) in support of the fight against the LA Fitness project in at the Shops @ Rossmoor in Seal Beach. The Planning Commission voted to adopt the resolution to deny the CUP. No one changed their vote and it went in our favor. We […]
The Seal Beach Planning Commission did the right thing for Seal Beach when they voted to deny the required Conditional Use Permit (CUP) for the LA Fitness project!
This is a huge win for all of us. Congratulations!!
The June 27 meeting was packed (overflowing into the street) and the meeting lasted well past 11:00 p.m. The speakers against the project were terrific – thank you all so much.
In the end, the Planning Commission voted to accept the very flawed* Environmental Impact Report (EIR). The Commission then voted to deny the CUP for the LA Fitness Project, in effect halting the project.
Since the resolution to deny the CUP was not part of the public notice, the formal denial of the LA Fitness project CUP has been slated for the Commission’s July 17th meeting. Our understanding is that there will be no public comment on this resolution, so there is no need for CALAF supporters to show up – at least not at this point. We will let you know if this changes.
* It is our belief that the EIR is flawed because for among other reasons, it does not realistically account for the traffic in Rossmoor along Bradbury, Montecito, and St. Cloud. This mis-accounting for traffic creates many health and safety concerns for both Seal Beach and Rossmoor residents and visitors. The acceptance of this EIR is troublesome as future projects for the are behind Sprouts could use that Report as a basis for their project. We will have to keep a careful and vigilant eye out on future potential developments in the Shops at Rossmoor.
Out of the Woods?
Maybe not yet.
If the Planning Commission does in fact formally deny the CUP at the meeting on 7/17, the developer can appeal to the City Council.
We will keep you posted.
The big Planning Commission meeting that we have been preparing for since January is Tuesday, June 27th at 7:00 pm in the Seal Beach City Council Chambers located at 211 Eighth Street, Seal Beach. The city has delayed and delayed, but we believe this date is the real deal.
Decision time on the proposed LA Fitness is ONLY a few weeks away. We have been working tirelessly on this since January and the time is finally here to show Seal Beach what we have.
